when you see the “L.” Our chain is hallmarked 
(embossed) with an “L” and the grade of chain on every 
6th link. The “L” represents Laclede’s commitment 
to quality, strength, and service. Laclede has been in 
business since 1854 because of fine reputation for 
making high-quality USA products.

The trace code provides information about the 
manufacturing history of the chain as well as the origin 
of the steel. The code is a combination of letters and 
or numbers located on the G120, G100, G80, and G70 
chain. These grades are all heat treated (a process 
that involves heating chain to extreme temperatures to 
harden the material to improve the metallurgical and 
tensile properties of the chain).
